ABOUT
Jenna Hendry is an artist working in the field of dance and choreography.
She is born and based in Zurich and studied dance in New York City at Steps on Broadway and in Rotterdam at Codarts Hogeschool voor de Kunsten.
Jenna has been working as a freelance dancer since 2015, collaborating with choreographers and companies such as CocoonDance, Yasmine Hugonnet/Arts Mouvementés, bollwerk, Lyn Bentschik, Philipp Egli/egli items, Irina Lorez & Co, compagnie o., OONA project, Natalie Wagner, DA MOTUS! and VA Wölfl/Neuer Tanz, amongst others.
When creating her own work she collaborates with artists in different constellations.
She created the short piece Mmmh?! at Inkubator 2018 – a grant project for short pieces – the piece was selected for Tanzfaktor 2020, a Swiss national tour organized by Reso for five promising up-and-coming artists. In addition it was also selected for Aerowave’s 40 Winks program 2020.
Since 2017, Jenna has intenisvely collaborated with Matilda Bilberg (SE).
Together they presented their first co-creation I U M I in 2019, which they performed/are still performing in Switzerland and abroad. With I U M I they were selected as Aerowaves Twenty 21 artists.
Together with the choreographers Matilda Bilberg (SE), Nerea Gurrutxaga (SP), Maria Teresa Tanzarella (IT) she co-founded the collective UTOPISISTAS in 2018, which premiered their first collaborative dancepiece I’ll be back at Tanzhaus Zürich in 2021 and subsequently toured/is touring abroad.
In 2020 Jenna received a cultural award in the section dance by the city of Zurich.
Jenna is also a founding member of the association BewegNungsraum Kulturen. Together with 6 other team members she co-leads the project Bewegen und Begegnen am BAZ, which includes weekly dance sessions at the Federal Asylum Center Zurich, as well as the accompaniment of people living in the center to dance events outside the center.
Since 2019 Jenna has been teaching professional dance trainings at Tanzhaus Zurich, IG Tanz Ost and Tanzbüro Basel.
